Open House

每年九月中旬週末,倫敦有一名為'Open House'活動。顧名思義'Open the house to the public',城中很多有建築特色或歷史價值的建築物,無論是公營或私有,都免費開放予公眾參觀。

這兩天是今年的Open House,約有六百多項開放活動。每個開放的site都注有工作人員為參觀者解說有關該建築物的歷史和故事。這兩天City和West End(是比較多Open House Site的一帶。下次我會介紹一下City, West End, East End, Solo這些倫敦區域名稱的由來。敬請留意!)有很多手上拿著Open House Listing;頸上架著相機的Londoner。大家都希望藉這週末,一睹平日不能隨便進入或參觀的建築物。

昨天,我和小德米就到了3個site參觀:已關閉的第一個維多利亞時代公眾泳池、堂皇的70年代舊報館(Daily Express)和擁有88個Court Rooms的哥德式Royal Courts of Justice。其中Royal Courts of Justice無論裡外都最為magnificent。Royal Courts of Justice平日週一至五也開放給予公眾參觀及旁聽Trials(全為civil和appeal cases,沒有crown courts)但這個週末就更有短片播放介紹Royal Courts of Justice 的歷史、solicitors示範mock trails、法律常識講座及拘留疑犯的cells。
